Johannes Greber was born in Wenigerath, Germany, on May 2, 1874. After studying for the priesthood in the Catholic Church, he was ordained in 1900. In 1904 he became the parish priest in a community in the Hunsrueck, one of the poorest regions in Germany, where many people were suffering from tuberculosis. Most could not afford medical help, and the nearest doctor was 30 km away.

Father Greber sought to help his parishioners. He had a young woman from the parish trained as a nurse to care for the sick, and he arranged for a doctor to come regularly from the nearby city. He set up a health insurance plan that became a model for others.

As the country was summoned to war in 1914, he was deeply concerned. He had a vision in which he saw thousands of half-starved children. A finger pointed to the children and a voice spoke to him: "This is your task." After two years of the deprivations of war, he saw the undernourished children in reality. Seeking a way to help them, he decided to try to send them to Holland.

His bishop and the lay authorities refused to help him, calling him a utopian. But Father Greber would not be deterred. He sought to fulfill his great task and succeeded in sending thousands of children to Holland to recover from the ravages of war. Often he spent the last money he had to buy train tickets for the children.

One day, Father Greber was asked to investigate a small spiritist circle in his capacity as a Catholic clergyman. Amazing teachings were presented there through a youth without any special education. Father Greber, whose intention had been to expose a fraud, found himself confronted by a high spirit messenger of God's speaking through the boy. Greber was given the assignment of passing the revelations he received on to his fellow human beings. Because of these revelations he left the priesthood in the Catholic Church in 1925, continuing to work in the charitable organization he had founded. In 1929 God's messengers encouraged him to migrate to America, and he followed their advice.

He settled in New York and founded several prayer groups and a church there. At the church services in New York and later in Teaneck, N.J., many people were healed in the course of the years, a large number of whom had been given up as incurable by their doctors.

In 1932 Johannes Greber published in his book "Verkehr mit der Geisterwelt" his experiences with spiritism and the revelations he had been given by the high spirit messengers who taught him. It was written in German and Greber had it translated into English ("Communication with the Spirit World"). The earlier translation has recently been corrected and revised -- this new edition is available for downloading on this site.

In 1937 he published his translation of the New Testament from old Greek manuscripts. Many of the truths contained in "Communication with the Spirit World" are confirmed by this Bible translation -- they are truths known to the early Christians that were no longer recognized or were suppressed by the later Church.
