The legendary journey of Saint Brendan was in the tradition of Irish sea-faring tales about the exploration of the ends of the world to the west in search of supernatural places like Tir na nog, the otherworld of the eternally youthful. This peculiar Irish narrative, traditionally known as an Immram, attests to Brendan's journey culminating in the discovery of a land reserved for the Saints. It is believed today that Brendan had been one of the first Europeans to arrive in North America.
